Every year we aim to have a CPRE stand at key events around the county. Two major public events we have attended so far this year have been the Rempstone Steam & Country Show near Burton-on-the-Wolds and the National Forest Wood Fair at Beacon Hill. At these events we meet a wide cross section of the public, all of whom are very supportive of what we do - once they learn about our purpose. There lies the rub though, an awful lot of folks haven't heard of CPRE, or if they have, they don't know what the initials stand for. Now that we have a new logo it is to be hoped that it becomes instantly and widely recognisable.

Here are some images of the Rempstone Show:

The weather this Summer hasn't been that good but it was definitely better for the Rempstone show than it was for the National Forest Wood Fair...

For an August day, it was cold, wet and very windy, which made setting up the shelter rather difficult. In spite of the poor weather the event was well-attended but we did find that our stand was especially popular when the heavens opened! Next year we'll ask for a table in one of the large marquees!
Actually, the weather did improve somewhat after lunch. Here's a general view of the Wood Fair:
The main aim of attending these meetings is to show that credible challenges to contentious planning applications and consultations can be lodged by the general public. In the case of the Wood Fair we also demonstrated the means to protect trees and hedgerows. CPRE groups can quickly get right to the heart of planning matters, something which few local action groups achieve. In short, CPRE punches well above its weight.
OK - so planning issues aren't bed-time reading! How about some of you volunteering to organise social events? The floor is yours...
